IT support that keeps the working day moving
Most organisations in Uganda don’t need a full-time IT department. They need someone dependable to call when a laptop won’t connect to the printer or Outlook keeps asking for a password. They need help when the office internet slows to a crawl, or when it’s time to buy computers and nobody knows what to get.
That is the gap our ICT support and consultancy service fills. Generation Solutions has provided IT and technical support since 2017, alongside our hosting, email and Microsoft 365 services. Because we often manage a client’s domain, email and website as well, we can usually trace a problem across systems instead of passing it between suppliers. Our aim, in the words of our original service description, is to help organisations put ICT assets at the service of their business needs and strategic vision.
ICT support services
Remote technical support
Help by phone, WhatsApp and remote-access tools for software problems, email issues and configuration changes — often the fastest route to a fix.
On-site support
Visits to your office for problems that need hands-on attention. Availability depends on location and the support arrangement agreed.
Computer troubleshooting
Diagnosing slow computers, startup problems, crashes, malware and peripheral issues, and recommending repair or replacement.
Software installation
Installing and configuring operating systems, Office applications, accounting and line-of-business software, and security tools.
Network troubleshooting
Diagnosing connectivity problems, Wi-Fi coverage, shared printers and slow internet within the office.
Maintenance
Scheduled updates, clean-ups and health checks that prevent problems instead of reacting to them.
Some services — such as hardware repair and network installation — depend on the specific equipment and site. We’ll tell you clearly what we can handle ourselves and when you need a specialist.
Common problems we solve
These are the issues we see most often in offices, schools and NGOs, and what usually lies behind them:
| Symptom | Typical causes |
|---|---|
| “My computer is very slow.” | Too many startup programs, a nearly full disk, malware, an ageing hard drive or insufficient memory for current software. |
| “Outlook keeps asking for my password.” | A changed password saved incorrectly, an outdated account type, or security settings on the mail server. |
| “The internet is slow in the office.” | Congested Wi-Fi, a misplaced router, devices streaming or updating in the background, or the ISP connection itself. |
| “I can’t print.” | Driver problems, the printer changing network address, or the print queue stuck after an error. |
| “I deleted a file I need.” | You can recover them from the recycle bin, OneDrive version history or backups, if you set these up in advance. |
| “Someone is sending emails from my account.” | A compromised password, often from phishing. Needs immediate password reset, sign-out of sessions and checks on forwarding rules. |
When you contact us, a clear description of what happened, when it started and any error messages (a phone photo of the screen is fine) speeds things up considerably.
How our support arrangements work
Different organisations need different levels of support. We agree an arrangement that fits rather than forcing a single model:
As-needed support
You contact us when something goes wrong. Suitable for very small offices with few devices and occasional problems.
Ongoing support arrangement
Agreed support cover for a defined set of users and devices, with routine maintenance and priority attention. Suitable for organisations that rely on their systems every day.
Project-based work
One-off projects such as setting up a new office, replacing computers, moving to Microsoft 365 or tidying up a network.
Every arrangement sets out what it covers, how to ask for help and how quickly we aim to respond. We don’t publish standard support prices because cover depends on your number of users, devices and locations; we prepare a quotation after a short assessment.
IT infrastructure assessment
Before recommending changes, it helps to know what you have. Our assessment looks at your organisation as it is today:
- an inventory of computers, phones, printers and network equipment, with age and condition;
- software in use and whether licences are in order;
- how you handle email, files and backups;
- who has access to what, including former staff;
- internet connectivity and office network layout;
- key risks, such as single points of failure or data held only on one laptop.
You receive a short, plain-language report with prioritised recommendations. Urgent fixes come first, then improvements you can budget for over time.
Business technology consultancy
Technology decisions are business decisions. Buying the wrong laptops, choosing software that doesn’t fit your processes or signing a long contract for the wrong service all cost money and time. We help leadership teams make these decisions with clear information.
Technology planning
A practical roadmap for the next one to three years — what to replace, what to adopt and in which order — aligned with your budget.
Digital transformation
Moving paper-based and manual processes to digital tools your staff will actually use, starting with the biggest pain points.
Procurement advice
Specifications for computers, network equipment and software so you buy what you need and can compare supplier quotations fairly.
Business continuity
Planning for power cuts, internet outages, theft, failed hardware and staff departures, so operations can continue.
Business continuity and technology risk
For many Ugandan organisations, the biggest technology risks are ordinary ones. A laptop gets stolen from a car, or a power surge kills a desktop. A staff member leaves with the only copy of the finance spreadsheet, or an email attachment brings ransomware. Continuity planning asks a simple question of each risk: if this happened tomorrow, how would we keep working?
Identify critical systems and data
Which systems would stop your work if they were unavailable for a day? Email, finance records, donor reports and client files are typical answers.
Make sure there is a copy
Critical data should exist in more than one place, ideally with one copy away from the office — cloud storage such as OneDrive is often the simplest approach.
Reduce single points of failure
Shared passwords held by one person, one admin account, a single internet connection — each can be addressed.
Write it down
A one-page document listing key accounts, suppliers and recovery steps is invaluable during an incident.
ICT support for SMEs, schools, NGOs and offices
SMEs
Small businesses need IT that doesn’t distract from running the business. We provide a single point of contact for computers, email, website and internet issues, at a level of cover that suits your size.
Schools
Schools combine administrative offices with computer labs, often with limited budgets and peaks of activity around term start and exams. We help with lab maintenance, staff email, admissions systems and planning equipment purchases. See solutions for schools.
NGOs
NGOs frequently have staff in the field, donor reporting obligations and sensitive beneficiary data. We focus on reliable communication, secure shared files and practical data protection. See solutions for NGOs.
Offices
For professional offices — law firms, consultancies, clinics and agencies — we keep workstations, printers, email and shared files running so staff can focus on clients.
Security basics every office should have
A short list of habits could have prevented most security incidents we see in small and medium organisations. They cost little to put in place and remove the most common risks:
| Measure | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Automatic updates for Windows, macOS and browsers | Most attacks exploit known weaknesses that updates have already fixed. |
| Reputable antivirus on every computer | Catches common malware, including infected flash disks, before it spreads. |
| Unique passwords and multi-factor authentication for email | A stolen email password is the starting point for most invoice fraud. |
| Separate guest Wi-Fi | Keeps visitors’ devices off the network your computers and printers use. |
| Standard (non-administrator) accounts for daily work | Limits the damage a malicious download can do. |
| Important files saved to backed-up storage, not just the desktop | A stolen or failed laptop then costs you a device, not your data. |
As part of an assessment or support arrangement we check these basics on each machine and help you put the missing ones in place.
Onboarding and offboarding staff
Staff turnover is when IT problems quietly pile up. New starters wait days for an email account and a working laptop; leavers keep access to email, shared drives and social media accounts long after they’ve gone. A simple, repeatable checklist fixes both.
When someone joins
- create their email account and add them to the right shared mailboxes and groups;
- prepare a computer with the software they need, updates applied and antivirus running;
- give access to shared files and systems relevant to their role — and no more;
- show them how to save files, use email on their phone and report problems.
When someone leaves
- disable their sign-in on their last day and change any shared passwords they knew;
- forward or delegate their mailbox so client emails aren’t missed;
- retrieve organisation devices and copy important files from them;
- remove them from social media pages, domain and hosting accounts and other services.
We can run these checklists for you as part of an ongoing support arrangement, so nothing depends on someone remembering.
Talk to our ICT team
For an urgent problem, call or WhatsApp us on 0789 154 000 or 0708 349 383. For ongoing support or consultancy, tell us how many users and devices you have, where you are located and what is causing the most trouble, and we will suggest an approach.
Your next step
Describe the problem or project, how many users and devices you have, and where your office is. For urgent faults we start remotely straight away; for ongoing support we begin with a short assessment and recommend the level of cover that matches how much your organisation relies on its systems.
ICT support questions
Do you provide on-site IT support?
Yes, subject to location and the support arrangement agreed. We can solve many problems remotely, which is usually faster.
Can you support an office that already has some IT setup?
Yes. We start by understanding what is in place, then support it or recommend improvements.
Do you repair computer hardware?
We diagnose hardware faults and advise on repair or replacement. If you need a specialist repair, we will tell you.
Can you help us choose new computers?
Yes. We write specifications suited to how your staff work, so you can buy the right equipment and compare quotations fairly.
How do I request support?
Call or WhatsApp us with a description of the problem, when it started and any error messages. Clients with support arrangements follow the agreed request process.
Can you help us recover data from a failed computer?
We assess the device and, where the drive is still readable, recover files to safe storage. Badly damaged drives may need a specialist recovery service, which we can advise on. The best protection is keeping important files in backed-up cloud storage before anything fails.
Do you support Mac computers as well as Windows?
Yes, for common business tasks such as email, Microsoft 365, printing, Wi-Fi and software setup.
Is remote support secure?
We only connect with your permission, using reputable remote-access tools, and we end the session when the work is done.
